Doing a knitalong with @smithstitchers - but I can't stop knitting so I'll probably be done with the whole thing tonight.

This is the June hat pattern from @kelbournewoolens, in Smith's colors - it's ridiculously fast and easy (aka 'instantly gratifying').

I quit knitting for a couple of years because winter was always earrings time.
.
Life has changed. I'm reviving some earrings in the spring but this long, gray New England winter is perfect #knitting time.

So we did a thing yesterday.

This is Theodore, Theo for short - and he is so very short!
.
Theo is a teeny chiweenie. He is two years old and weighs 11 pounds and he's the most sweetest of sweet boys. He is calm and cuddly and adorable and so far gets along with everyone - adults, kids, cats and other dogs. He is perfect.
.
We have never not had a dog and so making a massive move to Northampton from California without one really sucked!
.
I decided soon after we got there that I'd start looking for a little one that could easily fit in a little apartment and travel, but I'd given up after 4 months of applying for dogs at New England rescues and never getting a single reply.
.
Theo happened pretty magically. I was complaining on Twitter about the lack of communication from New England rescues and someone I didn't even know jumped into the convo and suggested I check out this tiny rural rescue about an hour and a half from my mom's house where we are spending winter break.
.
Well, I did, and there was one small dog available, and it was Theo. He is such a good boy - he's already potty trained, he prances like the lil man that he is, and he's in love with my daughter.
.
Here is the magic bit: Theo had been adopted already, but the person who adopted him had never had a dog and didn't realize dogs aren't cats, even the little ones, and Theo was returned a week later.
.
Theo is so loving that one of the other people at the rescue told his foster he would make a great emotional support animal. My application came through an hour later, stating that we wanted a dog that would be... an emotional support animal. When the foster called me back the first thing she asked me was whether I believed in God, magic, serendipity, synchronicity, or anything like that, because there it was.
.
Moving across the country in a pandemic has been so hard on my kid, and my dog Merry went to grandma's so she could continue being a country dog with room to run. We have been calling in Theo.

The Wilkes Humane Society was wonderful to work with and we love love love our lil man.

A few weeks ago I crossed paths with a dad-peer in a park rockin' a TOTH tee. That dad is a married doctor with tweens. I am a 47 year old single-mom-by-choice undergrad with a ten year old because I just don't know how to do things traditionally. I'm okay with that tho. I can't wait to get my MILFy self back on a dance floor packed with hot, sweaty groovers but in the meantime, I'm raising my kid on living room dance parties because we gotta live.

And @nickodemusnyc somehow still looks 25. Must be the music.
